Board Commitment 5: Future Leaders

Develop the next generation of vigorous, visionary toll industry leaders.

One of the ways IBTTA develops the next generation of toll industry leaders is through the Leadership Academy Executive Development Program. It’s an intensive, weeklong course in all facets of toll agency operations, administration, finance, marketing, business development, board relations, public affairs and related topics.

  1. I had the great opportunity to attend the 2009 academy in Washington, DC. Part of the class work was about finding balance in our lives (and I wasn’t the only workaholic in the class!), taking time to "think", and learning more about the tolling industry to move towards an executive position. Four executive directors met with the class to talk about their style of leadership and their experiences in running a tolling agency. Sessions during the week covered finance and bonding, bond rating agencies; interoperability nationwide; working with the media (I aced that class!); the economy and impacts to tolling; and strategic thinking. It was an eye-opening experience and wonderful to meet people from other agencies that I can now contact for help or share ideas. I told our finance director I can now better understand what he's talking about when he discusses bond issues and rating agencies :) Scary thought!
